There are two different processes to create felt. One is wet felting and the other is needle felting.
Wet felting is the process of using water, soap, wool and friction to merge the fibres together to create a fabric. Wet felting is an ancient craft and is where our very first textiles came from. The best thing about wet felting is that most things you need to get started are usually found in most households. To get started you need a bowl, soap, sponge, bubble wrap, spray bottle and wool. The only thing you may need to purchase is the wool! Once you have all your materials it is just a matter of using your soapy hands to merge the fibres together to create felt. It is such a fun, tactile experience!!!
Needle felting is the process of transforming wool into a 3D shape by using a barbed needle. Through this process you are agitating the fibres so they bond together, creating a solid form. This technique is great for making little intricate soft sculptures.
If you are interested in learning this skill, I am teaching a needle felting workshop via zoom on the 10th of September 5:30 - 8pm
Join us for an evening of needle felting which will inspire creative flow and reconnecting with your imagination. Needle felting is the process of transforming wool into a 3D shape by using a barbed needle. Through this process you are agitating the fibres so they bond together, creating a solid form.
